A young Tunisian believer shares :
Most of the Tunisian Christians are from Muslim backgrounds, so in Ramadan it’ll be quite polite to be fasting with their families, and if not they’ll tend to eat in secrecy. The month is frequently spiritually heavy, but none the less it prevents them to go to churches and pray. Now Ramadan comes in through the summer, last year it was in August, now it’s in July, following the Islamic calendar, quite difficult and many people get sick from hot weather specially those who are elders and the
children who are learning to fast and are encouraged by their parents to do so.
Our service at the church is normally at 3pm, but in Ramadan we tend to do it at 12, viewing the fact that transport at a later time is difficult. Everything closes before iftar, the time where Muslims are allowed to eat once more.
It’s true, that it’s more hard to be seen going to the church during Ramadan – people might find it quite offending, but gladly we thank God our church has never had an issue. We have a bible study within the church led by a blessed person, who gives a study about Galatians, the letter that Paul has sent to the community there, that was a good time, and going every day to the church is such a great deal, better than to be at home and specially to get those blessings and learn.
One response to “Biblestudys during Ramadan in Tunisia”
May the Church in North Africa draw closer to one another during Ramadan. May they fellowship with one another. May they encourage one another and build each other up. Inspire believers to open up their homes around the time of breaking the fast so that other believers can meet together for fun and worship and prayer. Amen!
