Ramadan in Algeria

A traditional ftour meal in Algeria – eaten to break the fast each night.

An Algerian believer shares :

About Ramadan in Algeria, I’m sure its much the same like in the rest of North Africa! The spiritual atmosphere is so heavy as this is the month of much religious activity. The truly devout Muslims come to life and feel that this is their month to shine. There is a lot of pressure in the community to be religious. A lot of violence also happens during this time – many muggings, robbery etc. For me, it leads me into worship of Jesus! People eat a lot, invite friends, go to visit family and friends, some they do party! It’s an opportunity for us to build friendships with other Algerians! All the restaurants are closed and also at all the hotels. One positive highlight for me is that all Algerians eat at the same time after sunset – its a time of unity and coming together and this also leads me to prayer for my country!

Please join us to pray for Algeria during Ramadan. Pray for :

  • Believers living in Muslim families to have wisdom to know what to do during Ramadan. Will they fast? Or will they choose not to? What will the consequences be? Negative and difficult? Or an opportunity to demonstrate freedom in Christ? What does Jesus want them to do this Ramadan? Pray for discernment, grace, strength, humility, boldness.
  • For opportunities to share about Jesus with many Algerians this month.
  • For expat workers and Algerian Christians to have opportunities and open doors for meaningful conversations.
  • For dreams and visions for those who are seeking to follow God – may they meet with Jesus this month. I pray this specially for the Arab Algerians. May there be such incredible breakthrough this Ramadan. May many have soft hearts and willing ears to hear what the Spirit is saying.
  • For God to breakthrough spiritual bondages and bring freedom, love, joy and lightness of spirit.

“Look at my Servant (speaking about Jesus), whom I have chosen. He is my beloved, who pleases me. I will put my Spirit upon him, and he will proclaim justice to the nations. He will not fight or shout or raise his voice in public. He will not crush the weakest reed or put out the flickering candle. Finally he will cause justice to be victorious. And his name will be the hope of all the world!” Matt 12:18-21
