Can you comprehend what God is doing in Algeria?

A visitor who toured around Algeria recently writes:

It is impossible to comprehend what is happening in Algeria apart from a mighty move of the Holy Spirit and years of patient intercession and sowing of the Word. People from all walks of life are coming to Christ in numbers that church leaders cannot keep pace with. Conversions and miracles are testified to on TV and there is an enormous hunger to be trained and discipled. Believers have been set free from fear and their zeal and compassion is felt across the land.

The growth of the Algerian church in the past decade—encircled by Muslim unrest and antagonism toward Christians in North Africa—is truly miraculous. There are at least 75,000 believers in Algeria today and the number is growing daily. At least 3500 believers are baptized every year. The number of churches, house churches and groups is impossible to count. God promised to build His Church.

The Kabyles have their own language but, as Muslims, have been forced to pray in Arabic which most of them don’t understand. It is a revelation for them to come to church where they can sing, pray and listen to God’s word—all in their mother tongue. They realize that they need this kind of God that they can understand. The teaching is very clear and strong about faith, fasting, praying, witnessing, loving, the Word of God. They really believe God at face value. They totally love Jesus.  How does this inspire you to pray?

PRAYING FOR ALGERIA

  1. Pray for all the church pastors and leaders. They need a lot of wisdom, strength, protection, good teaching gifts, administrative gifts to manage the church growth, and times of rest, times with the Lord to keep them growing in their love of God.
  2. Pray for the on-going development of good discipleship materials and programs to ensure new believers are well grounded in their new faith.
  3. Pray for new believers to find real experiences with God that help them grow in faith and knowledge, love and service.
