Tensions between Christians and Muslims

date: saturday 1, 2016 0600

Christianity has existed in Egypt for centuries, and although believers have often been tolerated because of their historical presence and demographic size, they have been recently targeted. After a series of attacks on Coptic Orthodox believers this summer, a breaking point was reached.

The Egyptian government identified this tension and appointed Imam Mahmoud Gomaa, a Muslim cleric, the keep the peace between Christians and Muslims in upper Egypt.

This peace initiative will hopefully bring about better and more stable relations between the two religious groups.

We thank God for the appointment of a man whose goal is to bring about further peace and unity between the groups. Only God knows whether this will be a reality for believers or not, but we pray for their strength to continually come from God, no matter what happens. We know that God has a purpose in peace and in trial for them, so we pray for them to embrace their dependence on Him. We pray this in Jesus’ powerful Name, Amen.
