I can remember two things. One is a grand taxi driver, who was really upset so much. He was complaining about people buying so much food, food, food. (The passengers were simply listening quietly). There are many upset people during Ramadan, but it was rather unique case in just how upset he was. The other one was at Macdonalds. I went there a couple of times and was quite surprised that there were more people than before. Previous years I used to felt more cautious to go there as there were only some people who came for their children. But this year I saw just adults came for themselves. (young ladies).” “In our city we felt this was the least oppressive Ramadan we’ve ever experienced! Perhaps its largely due to being summer, but we felt that it was quieter, less aggressive, and far less “spiritual and holy”. In the past this has been the month where we’ve seen the fundamentalists out in force in our community due to the large training mosque nearby, but we hardly saw any around. Previously we also really felt in our city that Ramadan brings with it a somber, serious, religious atmosphere into the city, but not this year. Down near the beach it was one huge party every night until the early hours of the morning.”
